How Many Plugins Can You Add to a WordPress Site?

I imagine the answer is probably many hundreds.

How many should you have on our site? That’s easy. As few as possible.

If you want to attract more visitors to your site through organic search you need to rank high in the search engines. And one of the main factors companies like Google consider when ranking sites is the speed with which they load.

Go to the GTmetrix Website Speed and Performance Page and check out your site. If you are not ranking at the 90% level or above you need to make changes to your site.

WordPress is an extremely robust platform. I’ve had close to a hundred plugins activated on a test site, and everything still runs and loads just fine. But you can guess how badly the performance of the site suffers when thousands and thousands of line of Php code need to be processed to load each page.

Site Speed?

But what do you do when you want to put some type of special item on only one or two pages?

If you want to display a table, you have to get a table plugin. You have a post where you’d like to show an info box so you have to go find and install a plugin that is set up to do that.
